The Mans Cave App

The Mans Cave

The Mans Cave was a concept originated long before my time. The men in my family have always had their place of solitude where men could be men and there was no questioning. I now live the city life which means the man cave has been greatly reduced in size. That brought me to create an internet based man cave where all men can join in. Whether geek, gamer, jock, fitness, brewer, BBQ-er, or just looking for a place to read about manly news, you will find a home in the Man Cave

New Beer Reviews: Ommegang Hennepin and Red Brick Laughing Skull

Welcome back from another short weekend beer lovers! We've got two great beers we're going to review here as well as some big news for all of our fans.  While we are having some issues with getting the grain-to-glass video ready to go, we will still definitely be providing that great resource to you guys.  Be patient with us, and we'll keep you up to date, but for now it will not be available on May 28th.  However, in the meantime, we have three new video reviews coming your way shortly, and on top of that a great new competition with some awesome beer gear for your man cave!  So now for the beer:

Red Brick Laughing Skull Amber Ale (5.7% ABV):

From a brewery that is proud of its southern heritage comes a beer that the South should be proud to call its own.  This beer pours a nice amber color, kind of reddish, but a touch of brown to it.  It smells like a well balanced mix of yeast, bright citrus and floral hops, and rich caramelly malty aromas.  The flavor loses some of the yeastiness, which is definitely a good thing, because the interesting addition of chocolate malt gives this beer a sort of old world flavor that makes me think of cobblestone streets.  The hops are a nice balance between crisp orange and lemon flavors and the more floral flavor of Cascade hops.  Nicely bitter, but still very drinkable, this beer is smooth and tasty.  Rating- 8.5/10

Ommegang Hennepin (7.7%):

This beer is one of the great examples of a farmhouse style ale that is brewed in the United States.  If pours a light golden color and is slightly hazy from being unfiltered.  The aroma is both spicy and lemony, and there is a dull musty aroma in the background.  To me, this is the one strange thing about this beer.  The flavor is extremely complex.  Fruity, especially lemon, but with a spiciness that resembles the aroma.  There are definitely some honey like flavors that are in there as well that add some sweetness to it.  While there is some malt flavor, spices such as cloves are more prevalent.  In my opinion this beer is very good, but can be slightly overwhelming with everything going on in it.  Rating- 8/10

Remember to keep checking back this week in order to get in on our next competition! This one will be a great one to get involved in, and is even easier than the last one.  Find us on Facebook- just search for The Mans Cave and spread word to all your friends!

Cheers and Happy Brewing!
